I live in arizona, and I am familiar with Embry riddle up in Prescott. I have heard that a commercial pilots may get laid off at one point in there career. SO it would be a great act if I had a degree to fall back on. With that said,WHat type of degree should one pursue if they are interested in becoming a pilot?

An Engineering Degree would be helpful
Any 4 year degree would be good.
Any degree that could lead to a stable backup career… preferably in a field that you also enjoy. I usually say to pick your #2 career choice. Airlines won’t care what your degree is in.
a degree is not usually required.. just a HS diploma and the required pilot ratings and hours..
however.. a degree is required to be “competitive” and will increase your chances of being hired. A lot of schools offer Aviation Technology degrees which is always a plus
Exactly, any degree is good enough. Always have a back up.
Aviation Science
Believe it or not, the worst degree a professional pilot could have is an aviation-specific degree. It’s essentially worthless outside of the aviation industry. If you are ever furloughed and need to look for work outside of the aviation industry, employers will think one of two things: “This persons qualifications are much too narrow to be useful here” or “This person is going to bail out as soon as something opens up in aviation.” Trust me, I’m a commercial pilot with a BS in Aviation Technology.
Go for something more broad and useful in a variety of applications like Business Management. Think of your degree as a tool in your toolbox. Go for the most versatility.
